Baked Omelet with Vegetables and Mushrooms

This is an excellent brunch dish, very easy to make (this blog is dumbed down to such a level that even a Chimp who can read English should be able to make this, although I wonder if s/he will have enough patience. I suspect s/he'll just eat all the ingrediants raw).

The proportions below are for serving 3 people (of normal appetite) or one (post-facto unhappy) Gorilla.

Baked Omelet: Click to Enlarge

Ingredients:
  • Six eggs (preferably hen's, not ostrich's, unless you're planning to feed
    the locality)
  • 1 large onion (5-6 cm diameter)
  • 2 capsicums (small/medium)
  • 2 tomatoes (small/medium)
  • Mushrooms (7-8 pcs)
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tbsp pepper pwd
  • Salt
  • Butter/Oil

Prodedure:
  • Chop vegetables, mushrooms and onions, not too fine (1 sq cm). (Note We used dried mushrooms, so we had to put them in hot/warm water for 10 mins before chopping them.)
  • Beat the eggs+milk (no not like that kid in Surf excel ad, you get egg-beaters for this purpose, although an eating-fork is an excellent replacement for that) till it's frothy. This is very important, because otherwise the final product won't come out light.
  • Preheat the oven at 350oF.
  • Add all the chopped things into the egg, add salt, pepper powder.
  • Grease the baking bowl (with medium base and around 10 cms in height) with butter/oil/ghee.
Add the mixture into the bowl.
  • Bake for around 30 minutes at 350oF.

Serve with toasted bread/dinner rolls. Or just like that (especially to Gorillas).

that looks good

it does look good, gorilla might be happy if u serve it to him/her. Saves the gorilla the trouble of reading english :P.
And if you pour ur batter into a greased non stick pan and then cover it and let it simmer on low heat, I am thinking you'll have it done sooner than the 30 minutes. :)

Nice!

I'll have to try that one of these days.
The oven method is usually excellent for a slight variation of a tried recipe. Try yoghurt- (and spice-)marinated chicken (or your choice of meat) in an oven for 25-35 minutes (stir once to ensure even cooking). Mmmm-mmm!

I must post a picture of the regular pound cake I baked with cocoa/dough batter mix to give it the appearance of fudge-marble cake, over the weekend. I'll pick up some ultra-decadent dark-chocolate ic(frost)ing on my way home today :)

Master chef at work?

Now don't tell me you're giving up writing and taking up cooking? Either way is fine - for either way, you'll be a master (if only you wouldn't be lazy) - and either way, I get to show off my celebrity friend. :D

As for the omelette, it looks great - I personally don't like eggs and will avoid them like the plague if I can, but this looks fantastic. I might even eat it (but only if you refuse to give me anything else). :P

Yummy!!

Is this the weight-watchers' omlette? Sounds too good to be true!

Btw, on a completely different topic, since you like "Foucault's Pendulum" very much, you should try and read Arturo Perez Riverté's "The Club Dumas."

thanks all

bilbo: thanks for the tip. will try next time. this was our first "baking" try. I usually do this stuff in a normal pan (covered and on a very slow flame). It gets done in 10 mins max, only the effect is not the same... it comes out pretty good tho...

ssm: lol! perils of crooked writing eh?

ashu: yeah, my boss actually served us chicken marinated with yogurt and garlic paste and pepper. no spices otherwise. and it was great. I have a feeling it would go well with freshly made mayo..

sal: well I trust there was no metaphorical content in your coment ;-). there are always two kinds of celebrities: famous and not-famous. I'm in the latter... and don't worry, if you come down, I'll cook some ghati special for you. pure veg, trust me...

iw: eggless! aai ga. no eggless baked omlette stuff for now. try mix flour dhirade, with chopped veggies... but don't bake it!

AFK: weight watchers? should they be eating eggs at all? I posted photos just to prove that it's not a hoax :p. okay bookmarked the book for future reference. and don't worry about change of subject on this blog. this is one place where digression is revered.

chimps & omlettes

You know, it's more challenging for a chimp to read such a blog entry than you might think. The rare chimp who can do it, probably already knows how to make an omlette. But might still learn a thing or two here. But admittedly, I speculate.

cheers, d.i.
